How to Earn Points on Japanese Point Site

There are many different types of point cards in Japan, and you can earn 1 point for every 100 or 200 yen ($1 or $2) you spend. I wrote an article on how to use points, but not on how to earn them.

Special Usage of Point Cards in Japan

There are many point cards in Japan. You can find more information on how to make and use point cards on other sites. Basically, point card is worth 1 yen (1¢) per 1 point. But this time, I'll show you a more valuable use for it. In Japan, there is a word called “Poikatsu” (ポイ活). “Poikatsu” means try to get and collect points (reward/cashback) every day. Some people have over 1 million points!

What is Point Site

Point Site is another way of saying pocket money site. It is similar to cashback sites. For example, When you make a credit card through the point site, you get paid for it. Point sites return to members a percentage of what they spend on qualifying purchases. Wikipedia explains it as follows.

This is a system whereby the site operator receives a fee from the advertiser for placing an advertisement, and the site user receives a success fee from the site operator for using the advertised advertisement. In many cases, point site operators post affiliate advertisements. The user signs up through the affiliate advertisements and is paid by the site operator. When you use an ad, you earn points on the site (or app), and when you reach a certain amount, you are paid in cash or a corresponding gift code. Depending on the frequency of use, there is demand for this as a supplementary income, and there are many comparison sites dedicated to point sites. This system is based on a friend referral system provided by the point site, and when a user registers for a point site from a comparison site, the point site pays the referrer a reward. The point sites also do this as part of their efforts to attract customers.

Reward

It is possible to earn about 3,000 yen to 5,000 yen ($30~$50) per month by using low reward items such as free items, games and application installation, and about 20,000 yen to 30,000 yen ($200~$300) per month by using high reward items such as credit card issuance and FX account opening.
